Where Memories Are Made & Milk is Spilled

I love my kitchen table. Before we moved into our house, Jacob rigged up some ropes in order to lower it down from this "loft" area in his grandparents shed. It was quite the show!! It's rectangular and has room for guests.
But it's more than just a table to eat around. It has history. It was once a part of Jacob's family and served as the kitchen table for him. When my parents house burned, his parents graciously opened their storage shed and told them to use anything they needed. So for a while, it served as the kitchen table for my family. And now, it serves as our kitchen table. It's pretty cool that way.
Growing up, family meals were a big deal. We always, and I mean always, ate together as a family. No distractions. It was the same time every night and it meant we were all together. I grew up knowing that family meals were important and it was something I wanted to continue when I had a family. Thanks, mom and dad :) Family meals were important for Jacob's family, too, and he had the same desire for our family meals that I did. Thanks, Dale and Gaye :)
But our table has more than history, it has memories and memories in the making and stories to share.
Like the fun crafts that I do with the girls...and the evidence left behind. I could probably scrub it off real good, but where's the fun that? It gives it character.

And the time AB practiced her letters...with a sharpie. Just in case I forget how to write my ABC's...

Lots of yummy meals have been consumed here...

It holds times when, no matter the disagreement we've had, Jacob and I have been forced to sit across from each other and, without fail, one of us will catch the other's eye and conflict melts away as we remember that we're a team, with the same goal of raising our kids and leading our family in God's will, and just how much we love each other.

It's a place where we've been reminded of our many blessings and of God's provision for us.

It holds so many funny stories about the kids that I really can't even begin to write about them.
I love our table and all the things that are stored in the wood that its made of... except the crumbs that I cannot get out of the cracks that separate each section. Yeah, those kinda gross me out.

From His Word

2 Kings 17:15b

My worth and value is found in Christ alone. I don't want to waste my time following worthless things. I want only to follow Him. Wherever He leads, I'll go.

Do over, please...

I want a do over of 2013 so far.  I really, really hope the first week is not an indication of the rest of the year.  I thought it was pretty stinky that I was ending 2012 in bed with a migraine, but waking up and having it still linger for days was almost stinkier.  Seriously, this thing will not go away!!  Jacob's also been sick in bed...we just keep trading places, I'll be in bed for a while and he's up with the kids, then he lays down for a while and I'm up with the kids.  What a team!!
And I want a do over because Creek is still in this "I was around grandparents, and great grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and all kinds of people who thought I was completely perfect and shouldn't hear 'no' for a whole week!" phase and the retraining process is going on 3 weeks now. Thanks, fam!! We love you, too!!! (Seriously, we do love you and wouldn't have traded the time with you for the world!!)
And I want a do over because AB started the year out in her "testing" phase and Lynnsie has become a little adamant about expressing her opinion very loudly.  And for a long time if her opinion isn't noted and agreed with immediately.
And I want a do over because maybe once or twice in my "I feel like poop" mood, I snapped at my kids and had a crummy attitude.  Yeah, I definitely want a do over to erase that.
But I also want a do over because last night, as I was whispering my prayer for Creek while I rocked him and laid him into bed, I realized how quickly these days are slipping through my fingers.  That just Friday I took him for his 15 (and a half) month check up when the day before that he was only a few weeks old.  And how Anna Beth was talking about what kind of party she wanted for her 5th birthday.  Her 5TH birthday!!
And I want a do over because I really liked watching the girls play "adoption" with their baby's and stuffed animals this week.  They had their own little adoption system and they made sure each and every one of them had a mommy and a daddy.  So I'd really like a do over to see that again.
Too bad we don't get do overs.  At least not in the sense that I can erase my crummy attitude.  But my kids do give me a do over...like tonight when AB told me she loved me.  And I realized that even though my attitude's been crummy and I've felt awful for several days, she loves me anyway.  And I can get a do over because my God forgives me.  And His mercies flow new every morning - even the mornings after my crummy attitude. And because of His love, He lets me see the sweet glimpses and interactions of my kids as they play things like "adoption".  And just simply playing together, no matter what it is.
I may not get a do over in the way I'd like, but my God is greater and stronger and His love is deeper and wider and it covers a multitude of do-overs.

Insta Friday...on Saturday

Instagram may be my newest addiction, but I'll just call it a hobby for now. I love seeing pics that my friends post, but I've also found some people who post really cool pics of architecture and other cultures, and I love pictures of both of those! If you're on Instagram, find me...misticoleman. Creative, I know.
Apparently, there's this thing called Insta Friday in the blogging world and you do a photo dump of all your Instagram pics from the week. LOVE IT!! I didn't see this until late last night on one of my most favorite blogs www.pitterpatterart.com, check her out...she loves Jesus, does some amazing art work, loves adoption, and clings to God.
We went to the aquarium, ate the traditional cabbage on New Year's Day, got a little crafty, and had lots of fun! Here's my Insta Friday, on Saturday! And please excuse the lack of make up and bad hair...

Resolutions? Forget About It...

I can't remember the last time that I made it to midnight on New Year's Eve...willingly, that is.  A couple of years ago our neighbors that live behind us had a spectacular fireworks show well into the wee hours of the new year, so I laid in bed listening for a while and finally Jacob and I got up, raised the blinds in the living room and watched the show.  If you can't beat 'em, join 'em in this case.
New Year's Eve/Day is fun, don't get me wrong, but with small ones running around at 7 am the next morning, it's just not worth it to me right now.  Maybe in a few years when my kids learn to sleep in, we'll start staying up, maybe enjoying the evening with friends again.
One thing that hasn't changed about New Year's Eve for me for many years, though, is that I don't make resolutions.  I used to...then I'd break them only weeks into the new year and be forced to admit defeat.  And since that does wonders for the self esteem...But my very good, super awesome friend, Jill, and I started sort of a "reverse resolution" thing about 10 years ago.
It was the end of a rough and crazy year for both of us and we hung out at her apartment for New Year's Eve.  We decided that, instead of making a list of resolutions for the next year, we'd make a list of everything from the year before that we wanted to forget, to promise not to return to ever again.  And then we burned the list.  Not like in a "we're psycho, crazy, playing with fire" kind of way, just a symbolic "yep, that's done and done" kind of way.
That year, my list was pretty long.  There were lots of things I wanted to forget and never think about again.  Some years there are more than others.  This year, there was only 1 thing on my list.  I guess, too, I don't really think of it as something I want to forget, but more as something that - through the God's love and strength - I overcame.  I wrote about it last year, but it was my battle with post partum depression.
I've really thought a lot the past few weeks about what my life was like about this time last year - and about how good, great, awesome, powerful, and completely loving my Heavenly Father is to me.  That He loved me so much that He brought me through that time, surrounded me with more support than I could have ever imagined, and can now use it for His glory.
I love that my understanding of James 1:2 - 4, is so much deeper.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

Don't get me wrong, I'm still lacking and I am not complete in so many, many ways - and I'm not all "Yay, I had post partum depression!" - but I am happy about the woman that I am today, because of the trial that God brought me through last year.
So, I didn't exactly burn the "list" because I was sick in bed with a migraine all day and, well, playing with matches in bed doesn't really seem like the safest thing to do.  And I don't want to completely forget it, because in completely forgetting I would have to completely forget all the love that God poured out on me.  And that is something I never, ever want to forget.
There are things for this year that I hope to do - like blog more, learn to sew, start running again ("again"...like I've ever done it before.  ha!!).  But, hey, if I do it - great, if not - at least I didn't break a "resolution". :)

He is SOOOOO Good!!

I love God.  I love everything about Him.
I love His love for us.  I love His provision for us.
I love how He heals in ways I didn't know possible.
I love that He is the God of the mountains and the valleys, too.

This has been an awesome weekend/Monday (yes, Monday!) and I just wanted to reflect on how awesome He is.  This weekend, I realized that with the strength and healing that only God can give, my battle is over.  It's done.  Finished.  It is no more.
And I give God the glory.

This morning, for the first time ever, I put sweet Lynnsie's hair in pigtails. Two of them.  And they curled up so sweet and perfect and pig-taily.  Some of yoiu know why this brought tears of joy to my eyes.  I would love to share in depth with you why, so you can know the details of praising God about this,
but I have to respect my child's privacy.
And I give God the glory.

We had a wonderful afternoon in the French Quarter as a family.  Life has been so busy for weeks, maybe months, even.  And a nice, fun afternoon full of coffee, hot chocolate, and fresh beignets smothered in powdered sugar was the perfect solution to this craziness we're in the middle of.

I love this picture because, the last time I was at Cafe du Monde, I ate with Lynnsie
in my lap.  Only she was about 10 weeks old and in the b'jorn.  And her head
was covered with a paper towel :)

Creek never did figure out why he couldn't have beignets and
hot chocolate, too.  The goldfish just weren't cutting it for him.

This man played some awesome jazzy music on his saxophone.
I love saxophones.

That one section of beignet is left because if fell off of the plate
onto the table and the tables probably aren't the cleanest, just a quick wipe down with a reused wet rag between customers....

And I give God all the glory.
